We are seeking an Intermediate Water Resources Specialist/Engineer to work as an integrated member of our Water Resources Team in British Columbia. As an experienced practitioner, you will work both independently and as a team member of larger projects. This is an opportunity for you to grow your career by working in specialized and multidisciplinary teams on a variety of projects. The successful candidate will play a role in the growth of the team and obtaining work in a variety of different sectors. This individual will help shape and develop our talented local team all while being an integral part of Stantec’s continued growth in the region and country. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analysis

  • Performing tasks efficiently and accurately, using standard methods and techniques

  • Preparation of technical reports and development of proposals to Stantec’s quality standards

  • Conducting field investigations including water quality sampling, hydrometric measurements, data management, and analysis

  • Preparation of project plans, coordination, and scheduling of project activities

  • Collaboration with other scientific and engineering professionals within the Stantec community across Canada and the United States

  • Supporting ongoing business development efforts for the Water Resources Team. Developing and maintaining client contacts

  • Proposal development, including the development of work plans, scope and budgets

  • Actively participating in promoting and implementing a strong health and safety culture

  • Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Well-developed understanding of the general concepts and relevant areas of hydrology, civil engineering, stream hydraulics, stormwater/drainage and erosion and sediment planning, control, and management

  • A British Columbia professional designation or eligibility within one year is required

  • Knowledge of various hydrologic and hydraulic software (e.g., GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS) and GIS or other similar software

  • Application of geospatial databases and big-data management including statistical analyses and advanced programming are considered assets

  • Ability to manage time to meet project schedules and budgets

  • A strong affinity for internal and external business development and client management are a benefit for this position

  • Superior and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

  • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Education and Experience

    An educational background in science or civil or environmental engineering. A masters-level degree and consulting experience are assets

    At least 5 years with a bachelor (or 3 years with masters) of directly applicable experience, ideally in BC, of several of the following:

    Hydrology, monitoring program design, and execution

    Hydrologic, hydraulic, and/or water balance modeling

    Surface water baseline and impact assessment

    Stormwater management and green infrastructure

    Surface water supply assessment and permitting

    Erosion and sediment control planning and management

    British Columbia context and regulatory environment. Experience in the Yukon and Northwest Territories is considered preferred.

    The successful candidate will be required to primarily work in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Seasonal fieldwork may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather and rough terrain, and requirements to lift items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
