Because of COVID19, all Central1 offices are currently closed to non-essential employees. This role will see you working remotely until our offices are reopened. The timeline to reopen is still under consideration, as are our future remote working policies.

Job Description

The Financial and Regulatory Reporting department will be the authoritative source and expert in accounting policies, regulatory requirements, corporate tax, capital management and complex accounting. They will offer professional opinions on accounting matters and develop reports to facilitate informed decision making by senior management.

The department will be responsible for the production and distribution of Central 1's quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A. Additionally, the team will be responsible for the production and distribution of financial statements for Central 1's subsidiaries and affiliates as well as the production of regulatory reporting materials for Central 1 and its subsidiaries.

  • Support Financial and Regulatory Reporting's leadership in the pursuit of executing core activities

  • You will have the opportunity to be exposed to the following non-exhaustive list of activities:

    Financial Instruments Accounting and Reporting
  • Conduct core accounting responsibilities (posting, reconciliations, analysis, etc.) related to financial instruments and treasury accounting
  • Create financial statement note disclosures relating to financial instruments, ensuring that the underlying calculations and supporting documents are complete and accurate
  • Develop technical accounting expertise in financial instruments and hedge accounting
  • Develop in-depth understanding of Central 1's financial products and their accounting impact
  • Assist in the production of year end deliverables for external audit
  • Ensure integrity of sub-ledger data within treasury management system

  • Income Tax for Affiliates and Subsidiaries
  • Prepare and cross-check reconciliation of tax balances, remittances and assessments
  • Prepare and cross-check the corporate income tax returns for all subsidiaries and affiliates.

  • Financial Reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of Central 1's financial statements and MD&A according to the prescribed timeline
  • Prepare and/or assist in review the monthly and quarterly financial statements for Central 1's subsidiaries and affiliates
  • Assist leadership in performing reviews of the quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A to ensure consistency and accuracy

  • Regulatory Reporting and Capital Management
  • Obtain, assemble, calculate and analyze information from various systems to complete the monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reporting
  • Complete the monthly/quarterly and annual regulatory reports for the subsidiaries of Central 1
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and calculate and analyze Central 1's position in relation to these ratios

  • Process Improvement
  • Regularly review internal financial reporting processes, develop opportunities for improvement and proactively implement

  • Qualifications

    What you'll have:
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA) and a university degree, together with at least 4 years of progressive experience in the financial service industry
  • Experience in IFRS 9 Financial Instruments accounting is preferred
  • Working knowledge of core financial systems
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to be independent, self-motivated, efficient and able to tackle competing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across Finance
  • Display an agile mind set to accommodate a dynamic environment
