The City of Edmonton’s Residential Transfer Station (RTS) is where Edmontonians can bring household waste and chemicals for safe disposal. As a Labourer II at our facility, you will apply your previous waste transferring experience to provide excellent customer service and ensure the safety of all our visitors. You will succeed in this position if you work well on a team and can communicate in a respectful and inclusive way.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Ensure customers dispose their loads at the appropriate disposal facilities
  • Provide customer service to residential and commercial customers at disposal facilities, including directing and screening loads from customers
  • Handle and process household hazardous waste for proper disposal
  • Provide RTS traffic control, minor site maintenance, litter collection and snow removal
  • Safely handle refuse and recyclable materials, and prepare household hazardous waste for transport off site
  • Other related duties as required
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10 or higher or equivalent; Grade 12 is an asset 
  • 1 year experience in a waste transferring environment, including customer service and waste handling
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental precautions related to waste transferring and processing
  • Ability to learn the related equipment and tools, such as skid steers and various hand tools
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with contractors and the public
  • Ability to succeed independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions 
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as being fit-tested for a respirator, steel-toed boots and hard hat, is a requirement of this position 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
