The Director, Cloud Technology is a senior leadership role accountable for day-to-day operation of cloud infrastructure across the entire organization and for supporting design, development, and implementation of technology solutions in cloud. Reporting to the CTO, the incumbent will look to: a) Work with business units and on premise infrastructure teams provide recommendations when cloud, hybrid, or purely on-premise solutions should be implemented b) Support development of solutions (including private cloud and on-premise) that can be extended and moved to cloud (or from one cloud service provider to another) when cloud becomes a viable option c) Cloud implementation of new and emerging technologies.
Provide strategic leadership and technical direction/roadmap with regards to emerging technology solutions in the cloud with a focus on ML, blockchain, and data.
Work closely with internal and external partners to develop strategic goals around reducing downtime and service disruptions, as well as empowering business units to deliver innovative products and services by increasing the cadence of releases through continuous integration/delivery.
Drive/influence operational efficiencies through the adoption of new practices such as devOps, agile, lean, while incorporating sound information security and risk-mitigating practices.
Lead a team of 5+ direct reports consisting of highly technical individuals and managers.
Manage costs while improving efficiency and response to increasing and ever-changing customer demands by employing practices such as Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, and Agile, and Lean practices and methodologies
Monitor and respond to existing and emerging needs across all business lines.
Understand business drivers, mitigate risks and forecast operational budget to ensure profitability.
Research and evaluate technologies, tools, and processes taking into consideration performance, cost/benefit, scalability, operational challenges/risk and ultimately making decisions to purchase and implement.
Lead the ongoing exploration of new operational methodologies and strategies.
Effectively lead a diverse project portfolio of mixed complexity with opposing priorities, including resource allocation and planning to ensure successful and timely delivery.
Provide Senior Executive Team with advice and strategic options regarding new and emerging trends in technology.
Identify and assess risks and opportunities for improving performance, profitability and agility across the organization.
Responsible for developing and maintaining a framework to assess whether a solution demonstrates new or existing technology and processes based on a number of factors such as cost, time to deliver, performance, security and regulatory requirements.
Function as an integral part of the senior management team with regard to effective planning, capital expenditures and operational budget management.
Advise and approve the recruitment, training, development, and retention of managers and technical specialists in order to establish and maintain qualified staff.
Provide motivation, mentoring, training and developmental opportunities to ensure employees are capable of performing at or above the necessary professional standards.
Accountable for performance management, promotions and salary reviews of all subordinates and ensures that all HR processes are conducted fairly, effectively and professionally.
Communicate formal and informal performance feedback to ensure performance is handled fairly and effectively.
Connect with staff and executives on objectives, priorities, performance targets and standards, plans, unit accomplishments, and budget reports.
Skills and Experience:
Post-secondary education in Computer Science or relevant work experience
Min. 10+ years of broad information technology experience, with at least 5 years working with private and/or public cloud infrastructure.
Min. 7+ years in people management and/or program leadership experience.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing ITSM tools, processes, policies and standards.
Experienced knowledge of IaaS, SaaS and PaaS products and services.
Well versed in current industry-leading project delivery methodologies such as Lean and Agile.
Knowledge of fundamental concepts of financial market infrastructure and ability to translate business needs to/from technical details and communicate effectively with C-suite.
Demonstrated ability to handle challenges in a diverse workplace.
Ability to work with teams to achieve goals and meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Works well within time constraints and can prioritize challenging priorities appropriately.
Self-starter; motivated to lead, perform and deliver with minimal direction.
Security certification such as CSA, CISSP, CISM, etc
