Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Civil Designer to join our Conventional Energy Team in the Calgary or Edmonton office. The Civil Designer is responsible for:
Processing topographic data (from LiDAR, satellite, ground surveys, etc.) for use on the projects. Generating 3D models for earthworks including site preparation, rough grading, final grading and surface drainage, ditches, ponds, roads, embankments using Civil 3D Preparation of engineering deliverables within the scope assigned Site preparation for cold climate area ex. Northern Alberta, Canada (including rough grading of the plant site and pipeline corridors) access roads, haul roads and service roads Drainage including culverts / storm water management of the plant site Ponds - storm water drainage pond, process ponds including liner and leakage detection Erosion control and protection Underground pipelines and utilities Coordinate and work with project team members across global offices Liaison with other disciplines and client when required Preparing material take-offs Managing time and tasks within allotted timelines and budgets

Skills / Qualifications

Diploma in Civil Engineering Design or Engineering Design and Drafting Technology Excellent organizational, technical, writing, communication and computer skills Experience in using AutoCAD and Civil 3D design/drafting software 10 to 15 years of experience in earthwork, site grading, roads, drainage, ponds, and pipeline corridors Understanding various coordinate systems and geodetic elevation references Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks Effective communication skills Ability to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment Experience working on heavy civil engineering projects with open pit mining and A/G pipeline corridors
